By selecting the “SONAR sys. sim.” button or tab, the user navigates to the “SONAR simulation” interface.

SONAR system simulation takes input from projector signals, processes them in the environment, and outputs the hydrophone signals. Different buttons can be configured to be not enabled in configuration files. For example, the passive SONAR configuration allows setting the projector signals as not enabled.

The “Dry-to-wet” and “Wet-to-dry” modules manage the conversion of hardware specifications between terrestrial equipment and underwater measurement systems. An analysis filterbank and a synthesis filterbank are integrated into each submodule of the SONAR simulation to process signals before and after convolution. The analysis filterbank converts signals from the time domain to the frequency domain, while the synthesis filterbank performs the reverse conversion. Windowing and zero-padding techniques are applied during this stage of signal processing within the system simulation.

“Dry to wet” is a hardware simulation module that converts analog-domain sound pressure signals (normalized projector signals) into a digital format. It emulates the hardware interface between the computer and the underwater simulation environment. The process begins by converting normalized signals into voltage signals through multiplication of the signal spectrum by the specified maximum voltage (V peak-to-peak). These voltage signals are then amplified by a given gain. Finally, the amplified voltages are transformed into µPa units using a preloaded projector sensitivity curve.

“Wet to dry” is a hardware simulation module that converts digital-domain sound pressure signals into a analog format. It is used to simulate the hardware between the underwater environment and the computer. In the first step, the sound pressure signals in µPa are converted into voltage signals, via the previously loaded sensitivity curve of a hydrophone. In the next step, the voltage signals are amplified with a given gain and normalized to a specified maximum voltage (V peak to peak).
